Project Overview
Peninsula Guitar Series is giving out 25 guitars and free virtual music lessons to children, ages eight to twelve years, who otherwise would not have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Students would receive private one-on-one lessons, for one full academic year, by talented high
school-aged guitarists from the Peninsula Guitar Series (PGS) network. The lessons would take place once a week via Zoom video conferencing, which is free for students and teachers to download.

For Interested Students
Goals:
1. Learn to play the guitar, to serve as a positive outlet for creativity and expression.
2. Learn the importance of routine and regularity in the pursuit of success.
3. Develop a strong work ethic through regular practice.

Participation criteria:
1. Aged between 8 and 12 years old during the 2022-23 school year
2. Family or guardian must be able to demonstrate that they do not have the financial means to buy a guitar or receive weekly lessons
3. Access to Wifi, as well as a smartphone or computer that can connect to Zoom video conferencing, once a week for one academic year
4. Demonstrated commitment to practicing every day, attending weekly classes, and caring for the instrument and any other materials used for lessons and practice.
5. Dedication, respectful attitude, and eagerness to learn

For Interested Teachers
Goals:
1. Develop leadership skills through teaching and holding students accountable with respect to their practice and their efforts.
2. Learn the importance of music as a way to help others and make our community a better place.

Participation criteria:

1. High-school aged (14-18 years old) during the 2021-22 school year
2. Access to Wifi, as well as a smartphone or computer that can connect to Zoom video conferencing, once a week for one academic year
3. Ability to teach 1-2 hours a week at a regular time.
4. Completion of a teacher training course with Robert Miller or Christopher Mallett, Co-Directors of the Peninsula Guitar Series.
